Our story

“I begin with an idea, then it becomes something else.” – Pablo Picasso

The above quote by the great Spanish artist Picasso summarises the story about how Kompargo came to be. The Kompargo story started with the founder and CEO, Chinedu Iheagwam, who had had an idea to create an affordable luxury African womenwear fashion label called Magenta Flair. So as he set about creating his collection he started to get more deeply involved in the other aspects of the fashion industry, including suppliers, mentors, manufactures, processes, funding and much more. In fact he did everything right – except the actual designs! It was after this ‘aha’ moment of realising that his strengths are more project management/engineering/business, and less design orientated. An opportunity came up to work at a fashion studio for about a year, and it was here where he encountered so many designers who needed help negotiating the production/manufacturing minefield. It dawned on him that there was a gap in the creative process that needed solving, and as he has an understanding and experience of both worlds, he began to question how he could help bring a solution to this problem by connecting fashion designers with the production world – and thus the Kompargo concept, which in Picasso’s words began with one idea and became something else, was born! We have consulted a number of fashion designers and industry experts to clearly define the production issues experienced, and how best to deliver the solution.

The name Kompargo is derived from a play on the Latin word for ‘Connection’, which emphasises our main goal, to “Connect Your Creativity!”
